Episode 5: The Place She Forgot ( Psychological Thriller) Author Kavitha.V ✍️ The building looked familiar. That was the first thing that frightened Eun-chae. She stood across the road, staring at the glass structure disappearing into the rainy night sky. She had never consciously visited this place before. At least, that’s what she believed. But something deep inside her disagreed. Her feet moved before her mind could stop them. The main entrance stood open. No security guards. No reception desk. No employees rushing through the halls. Just silence. The same silence that had followed her since Jaejoon disappeared. Eun-chae stepped inside. The lobby lights flickered softly above her.
The polished floor reflected every movement. It felt less like an office building and more like a memory frozen in time. Then she noticed something. A directory board. Most of the company names had been removed. Only one remained. LEVEL 7 – PROJECT SILENCE Her stomach tightened. The elevator doors opened by themselves. No button was pressed. No one was inside. For a moment, she considered turning around. Instead, she stepped in. The doors closed. Level 7. The elevator began moving.
As it climbed higher, her heartbeat climbed with it. Ding. The doors opened. A long white hallway stretched before her. At the end stood a single door. Room 707. Without knowing why, she walked toward it. The closer she got, the stronger the strange feeling became. Like she had walked this exact path before. Her hand touched the handle. Unlocked. Inside, the room was almost empty. One desk. One computer. One chair.
And a wall covered with photographs. Eun-chae froze. Every photo showed her. Different years. Different places. Different versions of her life. A university graduation. A coffee shop. A train station. A hospital corridor. Someone had been tracking her for years. Then she noticed handwritten notes beneath the photographs. MEMORY RESET 1 – SUCCESSFUL MEMORY RESET 2 – STABLE MEMORY RESET 3 – MINOR SIDE EFFECTS Her mouth went dry. "Three resets..." She whispered the words. Then another note caught her eye.
SUBJECT EUN-CHAE – FINAL RESET FAILED The room suddenly felt smaller. Colder. A sound came from behind her. Click. The computer monitor turned on. No one touched it. A video started automatically. Jaejoon appeared on the screen. Alive. At least, the recording was. His face looked exhausted. If anything, even more tired than the videos she had already seen. "Hello, Eun-chae." Her breath stopped. "If you're watching this, it means you reached Room 707." He gave a sad smile. "And that means my plan worked." Eun-chae stepped closer.
"Jaejoon..." The recording continued. "They told you that you helped create Project Silence." A pause. "That's true." Her heart sank. "But they never told you why." Jaejoon leaned forward. "You weren't one of them." "You infiltrated them." Eun-chae stared at the screen. Unable to move. Unable to breathe. Years ago, she had volunteered to enter Project Silence as an undercover researcher. Her mission was simple: Find out who was rewriting people's memories. Expose them. End it. "But something went wrong," Jaejoon said. "They discovered you." The screen flickered. "They couldn't kill you without attracting attention." "So they erased you instead." Another pause. "They erased you again." "And again." "And again." Eun-chae felt tears forming.
Every reset had taken pieces of her life. Pieces of herself. Then Jaejoon's expression changed. For the first time, he looked afraid. "Eun-chae..." "If you're hearing this, they know you're back." The lights in Room 707 suddenly went out. Darkness swallowed everything. Only the computer screen remained. Then a new message appeared. INTRUDER DETECTED Followed by another. CORRECTION TEAM DEPLOYED And finally— SUBJECT EUN-CHAE MUST NOT REMEMBER Somewhere outside the room... Footsteps echoed through the hallway. Coming closer. Slow. Deliberate. And stopping right outside the door. To Be Continued... Next Episode: Coming Soon...
